NEW DELHI: Walmart can invest billions of dollars and set up multibrand retail stores on its own, enriching farmers with foreign capital and helping consumers with cheaper food, Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal told ET.
“There is already a buzz and I am getting calls from across the world,” she said. Multibrand retail in food was a big political victory, in which the PM backed her.
She said there were concerns about NDA’s manifesto which said something different, but the fact that it would help double farmers’ income and foreign firms would have to buy the entire produce here helped address concerns of stakeholders.

She also said Arvind Kejriwal stood no chance in Punjab polls as people had only a passing interest in him, just like Punjabis are briefly attracted to new phones and cars.
